Homebase Boxing Day Sale Cons!

Just goes to prove there are shops that hike their prices before a sale!
I have £50 worth of vouchers for homebase which I need to use by end of January and don't want to spend it on stuff I don't really need! Decided to use them on a Kenwood stick blender set which I have wanted for a while but they have been out of stock for last couple of weeks.
They were selling at £59.99 which is annoying as its £49.99 everywhere else but willing to pay extra £10 so as not to lose the vouchers. I have been checking everyday and still out of stock. After midnight just after xmas day (early this morning) whilst on internet had another look and great news, its in the sale with 20% off today only so reduced to £47.99 but still out of stock! Have been checking again today and athough still out of stock they have now hiked their price to £69.99 showing a £20% discount for today only so now showing what they call their bargain reduced offer at £55.99. Tried the contacts page to complain about why they are cheating their prices but surprise surprise something wrong with page and can't contact!
What a con!

Take screen shots and complain to trading standards...a sale should be genuine companies have been fined a lot of money for dodgy sales.0

Thanks nearlyrich!
Have tried to go back and take photo but its now only showing the hiked up price which is a shame as that's a great idea! Think I will do as you advise and complain to trading standards anyway. Have been watching for a couple of weeks as really wanted to get the blender asap so know for sure I did not imagine the price! Bet they have done this to a lot of other stuff too!
Thanks very much, great advice!0 -
They all seem to put up the prices just before christmas, either to take advantage of the surge in demand or so that they can say that the prices have been reduced just after Christmas in the "sales". You only have to look at the tracking of prices on Amazon to see it.0

I think the majority of companies are guilty of this.
A few years ago PC World had a netbook in the sale for £299 reduced from £499. Unfortunately we missed out as when we went to buy the price had gone back upto £499. A few weeks later it was back down to £299 with a huge publicity campaign about the price drop. This time we managed to pick it up, however over the following months the price went up and down times more then a tarts knickers!0 -

Here you go ninjakat1.
The webpage as of the 24th December showing the price at £59.99 (and no mention of that being a reduced price),
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:KFOSwFw0XvYJ:www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=132998+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk
then two days later its normal selling price is shown as £69.99
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=132998
If that's not dodgy advertising I don't know what is and it might be worth printing it out before it changes.0 -
i noticed a fair few companies doing it this year. I purposely waited coz of the 'sale'.0
