Selling Handbag

Sold a few things on eBay and getting the hang of things, especially thanks to this board! But looking to sell the one of the wife's handbags, I doubt she would notice! (she does actually want me to sell it).
It's a brand new unused Loius Vuitton one, no tags but still has the plastic on the handle and the metal bits and has the dustbag too, my question is should I start it at 99p? I've started most of my items at 99p (and sometimes 1p) as it gets a lot of interest and normally sells at what it's worth anyway, BUT having looked at other bags I've noticed people start the price higher and the lower priced one's are fakes or copies.
Don't want to run the risk of putting mine up for 99p and getting no bids (or worse still just 1 bid!) as people might think it's fake or dodgy.
Anyone offer any advice? Would it be worth starting it at about £50? Think it would fetch about £100 if I play it right.

If you definitely won't take less than £50 for it then you have the option of srating at 99p and having a reserve of £50+. You can't have a reserve of less than £50 though. The listing will however be quite costly.
Otherwise all I cna say is never list anything at a price lower than you can afford to sell. Sometimes people get a shock when bidding doesn't reach what they expect it to, so don't get caught out.
Also, you may just run into problems if louis Vuitton are part of the VERO scheme as you would need their permission to sell something with their brand name, assuming someone notices and reports you of course.
lastly, can you prove it is genuine? There are some funny buyers out there who may well complain afterwards that they have received a fake and go through the dispute process.

First things first..... The half decent fake Loius Vuitton, Hermes, etc bags come from various sources, and all will come with plastic on the handles, the keys, the key fob thingy, the serial numbered card, the dustbag, etc, etc.... even the carrier bag!!! .... All to add authenticity.
Now.... If it's new, you most likely have the receipt, or some proof of purchase?
If not, your best bet is.... http://www.mypoupette.com
Use the info their to provide a listing that details the proof that the bag is genuine. The MSE Dictionary

I would include something along the lines of:-
"This is the genuine article and if proved fake full refund will be given"
I would also discretely mark it when you sell it in case an other one is returned.
Hopefully this will then make buyers more comfortable.0 -
In my opinion Ebay is so awash with fakes it devalues the genuine article.
My friend listed a genuine Gucci bag and it didn't even fetch her reserve price of £75.
Yet she had the receipt, dustbag, all the bits needed to prove it was authentic.
I think your partners may struggle to sell it for a 'decent' price, and as another post said she may find herself at the wrong end of a dispute even if she does.
I would recommend going to a dress agency. Most are also willing to sell designer bags and shoes on your behalf.
They should be able to authenticate the bag first.
They do charge commission (usually around 25%) which may equate to more than Ebay fees, but she'll probably end up with more in her pocket with this option.0 -
fatboy, I think it would depend on the style of the bag and things like that, the ones that have been heavily copied would have far less value than the ones that are quite unique in style, either completely flamboyant or stylishly classical... maybe you can find an article you can mention of a celeb who has one? personally think it would be better to sell it through a specialist outlet but perhaps its worth a shot on ebay? as long as you are 100% sure its real and offer that promise as part of the auction you should fetch a decent price... maybe a good reserve (£75?), a high BIN now price (£119.99?), and reasonable starting price (£40)?? Do you know what the item is worth in the shops?? (RRP?) The bags vary in price considerably...

Hmmm - just noticed something odd about that second auction, it was bought for BIN 0.01 and postage of £10.00 and now the same seller is selling it for £112.00 with 1 day left http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15660&item=8187084366&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
