Well done with the Ald! conversion.......I am not convinced yet. I have given it a good go but have been disappointed every time - quality of meat ( I usually bulk buy in a local butcher and would rather eat less and continue with butcher). I use AF for bulk buy dried store cupboard stuff ( pasta rice etc) and some tins like kidney beans and tomatoes. I do however like the cubed ham, parma ham and some cheese so stock up when I am passing - its not on a route I use very often either and living out in the sticks means I am careful with the fuel miles! My good friend and fab cook, swears by Ald! - I will continue to experiment :)

Not good regarding Tax credits - hardly your fault the decisions dept is sooooooo slow! Send them a rocket:mad:

To be honest, I get most of my meat from the butchers too. I usually spend £20 and get a lovely bundle that lasts about a fortnight. I did get some lamb mince today to try making homemade doner kebab, but dont usually buy supermarket meat. I like the look of AF but dont have room to store bulk buys so have never tried it.

I can still hardly speak today so dont think tax credits were taking me very seriously on the phone! I have sent my local MP an email as I have heard he has helped others with similar problems, so will have to wait and see. I am just so annoyed at the way it has been handled.

I have just got it. Thats what I'm using for my doner recipe. I cooked it yesterday while the oven was on anyway, so it just needs reheating today, but I tried a sneaky bit off the end and it tastes really good.

What a coincidence! I can thoroughly recommend the curries - its reminded me to do a batch cook of the basic sauce and freeze as I am in the middle of a stores and freezer stock take :) Reported the Spam BTW;)

    Thanks :)

We have just had our homemade 'takeaway' and it was delicious! Oh was impressed and said it tasted just like kebab shop food, but healthy. Think it cost around £4 for doner kebab, pittas, salad, chips and cheese for 4 of us. Would have cost around £15 from our local takeaway so I am very impressed! :j

Determined to be as productive as possible today!

Have an assignment to hand in. It just needs a bit of tweeking and will be ready to hand in by 5pm.

Sold my old car back in Nov and have never had acknowledgment from DVLA that I am no longer the registered keeper, so I have written to them to make sure they update their records and I don't get any nasty surprises relating to that car.

Have tried calling tax credits again, but gave up after 20 minutes on hold. Have written them a letter instead and have copied it into their complaints department.

Won't be a NSD today as I will need stamps for all my letters, but not planning to spend on anything else.

Student finance has come through, so I have paid off my overdraft, put my allowance into the grocery shopping account and put the rest into savings. Need to apply for oh's passport out of this and set aside spending money for hols, plus car tax next month. Need to work out exactly what is left and how much this equates to each month until end of April (when I get next payment).

Some good news - I called to check my loan balance, which I thought was around £2500, and it is now only £2009 and will be paid off in a year even without overpayments.

Today will be a good, productive day!

    A few developments today:

    1. I bought a dri buddi a few months ago but the timer was broken on it. Called to request a replacement but they were out of stock. I agreed to keep it for a partial refund. The refund cheque arrived today, so thats £25 to pay into the bank.

    2. Had a call from my MPs office and they are complaining to tax credits on my behalf. They are going to contact them on friday and try to get it sorted for me.

Also had a letter from dd's school saying I need to pay £7 for a school trip. I'm sure they get more expensive evry time. No doubt ds will come home with a similar letter soon too!

Not much to report, but a NSD today. Also another step closer towards obtaining my degree. Just realised I sm almost halfway through it now and finally starting to feel like I will get there one day.
  • Hi WelshKitty, congratulations on degree halfway point! My hubby takes his penultimate exam tomorrow as he is due to finish his in June. I have so much admiration for people who go back to education it is bl**dy hard work but so worth it. I hope you are getting lots of support x

And I totally agree on school trips :)
