Ours all cooked fine, but i used a delia stuffing recipe. I just don't feel delia in the then and this stuffing left DH and I feeling a bit cheated. I definitely wouldn't make it again. Everything else was good though.

I haven't bought turkey for years, preferring to buy one large chicken instead but I bought a turkey this year and I regret it. Firstly it was a bit big (my fault). Secondly, despite covering it with bacon/butter and seasoning it, well it was tasteless compared to the chicken I usually buy.

I bought prawn cocktail to serve on a bed of shredded lettuce as a starter but no one wanted it. I know prawns don't keep well so I ate some of it for my breakfast this morning (one of my talents is that I eat what no one else wants - save throwing it out). Anyway, now ive got indigestion. If you never hear from me again. I will have killed myself with food poisoning (another of my talents is that I'm a drama queen).

Oh and I forgot the Yorkshire puds. Hubby and I lay in bed this morning 'you forgot the Yorkshire puds' he reminded me.

'Stick a broom up me backside and I'd have swept the floor' I responded.:rotfl:

Everything was perfect, but then it wasn't me who cooked it!

I forgot the Yorkshire puddings and red cabbage too, but nobody missed them. Since I discovered Phil Vikery's method of cooking turkey about three years ago, I love it again after years of finding it dry and tasteless. 5kg stuffed turkey only takes two and half hours! The first time I tried it I was a bit dubious, but it really works. http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/food/365757/Phil-Vickery-s-perfect-Christmas-turkey
  • I bought a yummy prawn cocktail which I delicately placed in a wine glass with some rocket, chopped cucumber and avocado for my starter, since bf is a veggie it was a treat just for me and I was salivating at the thought of it. The glass was too tall for the fridge shelf so I put it in the door. You guessed it, I forgot it was there, swung the fridge door open and it shattered on the kitchen floor! I nearly cried. Luckily there was plenty of bf's veggie starter to share, but it just wasn't the same. Will pick up a portion of prawn cocktail when I'm out tomorrow to make up for it. Other than that, day was a great success, bf declared the roasties the best he'd ever had, which is nice! Looking forward to getting back into a healthy OS way of life in the new year, everything has sort of fallen by the wayside this last month!

Roast potatoes had been parboiled slightly too long and some of the smaller ones fell apart whilst cooking. Carrots were hard, despite being steamed for 15 mins. Yorkshire pud was marginally underdone.

I'm not mega keen on roasts anyway, unless they are cooked by my mum :D

I'd have been happier with a stew or curry.
  • Am pleased to say that Christmas dinner was a success this year , I was dubious regarding the. 5.224kg turkey crown and timings but was worrying over nothing really . Totally stress free .

Mum died 7 years ago & my elderly but still determined Dad has attempted Christmas dinner every year since (he won't let anyone else do it!)
We've had a few notable disasters the last few years but this year was the best ever - still not quite up to the standard of Mum's but very good!
  • I did ok I think as nobody complained lol
