Advice - HP Pavilion 15-n098e Laptop

Just saw this advertised on the telly, it looks like a great deal of laptop (Haswell i5 processor, 8gb of Ram, 1tb Hard-drive).

So for £400 is it a good deal or one to avoid?

(I have tried searching for reviews, but couldn't find any reviews of laptops which matched the specs)

  • I'm also thinking the same thing! Looks a cracking deal! I stupidly spilt coke all over my laptop 2 days ago and it's looking like I'm gonna be needing a new one, if I do I think I'll be going for this one.

It's a pretty decent machine for the money, go for it. Not a gaming machine by any stretch, but should be very comfortable with most tasks

  • Seems like a great deal.
  • Just be sure it can be upgraded to Windows 8.1
  • I'm also considering this machine, how can you tell if it can be upgraded to 8.1? I assumed all Windows 8 installations would be upgradable?

On looking in store to have a 'play' with some of the laptops on display I noticed this Toshiba C55-a-1n1 for £480, looks like the same specs but a "M" (compared to that HP's "U") code on the end of the processor [which seems to be better on benchmarking]

Is the extra £80 worth it to get a Toshiba (any horror stories with overheating etc?) with that processor?

The U on the processor is for a low-voltage one - less power, but better battery life. I tend to find the Toshibas are a bit cheaper looking & feeling, but you may find different, so have a look at them.

As long as it can be attached to my current monitor and speakers I'm happy.

It's a !!!!!! I can't remember the model number of the HP laptop I purchased in Mid-November which decided to die a death the following day (just wouldn't switch on, and hence returned for a refund).
