Lloyds Amex Card cover car rental (CDW)

hello,

First post here so take it easy on me :)

Really struggling to find information on the above topic. I would have phoned Lloydsbank in the UK directly but i'm out of the country for the next 2 months and call charges will be immense.

Basically i've prebooked and paid for car rental in south africa for a period of 2 weeks on my Lloyds Amex card and wondering if the Collision/Damage waiver is covered? I was under the assumption it was part of the purchase price but was hit by a massive bill for CDW afterwards which cost even more than i paid to rent the car :( They also just debited my account with the amount pretty much immediately which i was not happy about.

Any help if its covered and where i could track down some documentation to prove this to forward on to them and hopefully claim a refund would be much appreciate.

Cheers
Neill

I see two Lloyds Amex cards: Choice Rewards and Avios. Neither seems to offer such cover among their benefits.

A recent thread: Damage & Collision Insurance included?
  • Whilst your bank may not give it for free you can buy insurance separately for a tiny fraction of what the hire car company charges
  • thanks for the comments so far but i've already been charged for CDW by the rental company. They will however refund the charges if i can prove i'm covered by my credit card company (AMEX).
  • Your card company is Lloyds, the network is AmEx

As above, none of the Lloyds issued AmEx cards state that CDW is a benefit of the card
  • I can't seem to find any terms and conditions for Lloyd's Amex card purchases. It would be good to see it specifically exclude CDW

I'm not sure why you'd expect a specific exclusion. It would be a bit like a specific exclusion stating that the card doesn't guarantee to make a coffee in the morning.

    Try here.

I'm not aware of any 'normal' UK issued credit card, Amex or otherwise, that offers CDW on car hire

Amex Platinum does - costs £450 a year, though it looks to be a charge card rather than a credit card. I doubt they give it out that readily - no formal credit limit for example
