check ur credit file, maybe someone has some bad info on you.0

It depends how much current debt you have. Do you have another MBNA card such as Abbey or A&L? Virgin would most likely turn you down if you have.
You say you 'have never been turned down before - how many cards are currently open? How much avaialable credit do you have? Maybe it is time to close some cards. If you don't owe any money I would as above poster says check your credit file with Experian. Are you on the electoral roll? Do you live at the same address as someone with a dodgy credit history.
If you have no credit problems you can always appeal Virgin's decision.
If you are a stoozer you will be turned down from time to time - it goes with the job and is time to take applications very slowly

This sounds serious. Perhaps you should do it as soon as possible.
I have never seen this advice given before. It could be some kind of identity issue. Hopefully only you can resolve the problem.
