"Adyen" showing up in AMEX statement

I noticed there's "ADYEN UK LTD" from a few days ago, to the value of £1 in my American Express credit card statement.

Very weird — I don't remember making such a purchase. Any idea what it is?

Thank you

  • Found the answer myself, but not sure what it's for:

    Payment processing with Adyen
Q: You’ve recently made an internet payment and now see the name Adyen or AdyenPayments.com on your credit card statement. What does this mean?

A: We are a Netherlands-based electronic payment processing company. At Adyen, we make sure that our customers – in this case, the webshop companies – can offer consumers like you a reliable and secure way to make internet payments.

The name ‘Adyen’ will appear on your statement. But rest assured that your money has gone safely to the web shop where you initially placed your order.

Have payment or order questions? Please contact the web shop directly. Only the web shop has the authority to refund payments or reverse transactions. We cannot do this. The name of the web shop including a 16- digit reference number can be found on your statement. Please use this number in your communication with the web shop.

If you can not find the name of the web shop on your statement you can contact Adyen using the form below. We will contact you within one work day.

I have this on my Amex statement - it's from Pact Coffee (bought the deal through Bespoke Offers).

    Hope that helps.

It looks like an initial authorisation to me. I would wait a few days and see what gets posted. Otherwise you will end up disputing a £1 fee that vanishes anyway...

    Groupon uses them as well
  • I noticed when I got my new mobile online that they said they 'take' a small amount to check my credit card details, but it gets refunded. As paulw922 says: Have you bought anything online recently where a company might be putting through a tester payment?
  • I receive these every time I make an UBER (Car Service) booking. It is just checking the registered card is still valid at the time of the booking. The fare is then charged to the card in full and the authorisation amount of £1 is cancelled.

tescos do a similar thing for online shopping, on the day you order £1 appears on statement to check the card is valid, and then is replaced with the actual shopping amount on the day of delivery.
