    Do you not get a privilege day on 24th?

    The additional Christmas privilege day has gone. However, for existing employees in May 2013 (?), it was added to their annual leave allowance. For employees with a later start date, they don't get it at all so their overall A/L allowance will be 1 day less than the longer-working employees.

    I on the other hand think there is nothing special about bank holidays. The standard is 5 day weeks, that leaves 2 days a week to spend time with the family, not to mention the evenings. It's hardly traumatic to work a bank holiday.

    Yes, god damn those unreasonable souls who want (nay enjoy) spending more time with their families over and above going to work.

    Crazy fools every one..........

    But you seem to forget the fact that if they are working the bank hols then they still have the day to take at some other time during the year to suit them and if they really needed the bank hol off then they could put in a holiday request.

    Whos the crazy fool now?
  • I worked Xmas eve, day and boxing day and while i feel like i missed out on dinner at home with the family looking back i'm not overly bothered as a) someone has to work it and b) they all live here so I see them every day pretty much so would just have been a normal day with the addition of presents that I got when i came home
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:
  • Pay and a day off in lieu is not standard.

    I was paid for a night shift and a Special Sunday/Bank Holiday premium as well.

    Mind you, I'm on zero hours at that job, so I'm paid 12.07% on top instead of accruing annual leave.......
    :huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:
  • we just get it added onto our annual leave regardless so even if people had it off they would have already been paid it when they had the holidays off earlier in the year

    Not for my department, it will be converted into A/L next year.

    YAWN. Yes what a horrid life we live in Victorian England. I pity your family if you are unable to get together on the other 100+ days you have off a year.

    I love spending time with my family, and regardless of how much time I already do spend with them, one day extra would be the greatest thing I can think of (I doubt I am going to be lying in my death bed wishing I had spent less time with them)

    So if there is the opportunity to have this extra time I am all for it.

    Maybe you don't get the same pleasure from family life. That's perfectly fine as well.

    Have a great New Year (and if you are off on New Years day, at least try and enjoy it a bit ;) )
