Working over Christmas?

I just wanted to say thanks to all the public service workers, home carers, bar staff, entertainers and countless others who are working over the Christmas period to make sure we are all safe and looked after.
If you're one of them I hope you find some time to spend with your loved ones this Christmas, and wish you a very merry Christmas!
Thanks for everything you do, it really is appreciated.

Thanks Southend 1 for reminding us that people will be there for us. And can I add a thank you to all the volunteers who will be feeding others (animal and human) or be at the end of phone lines with a listening ear. I have in a previous year long ago felt very low and the thought that there would be someone to talk to certainly helped me through ChristmasFind out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

And to their familiesPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

My son's partner is working today from 0600 until 1300 (she is a kitchen assistant in an old peoples' home). I shall pick her up in time for lunch.
I too would like to thank everyone who is carrying out their essential work on Christmas Day and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Especially those dealing with the clean up after the flooding, and those trying to get all those homes re-connected to their electricity supply.
Even more especially to those who have been called into work. :T0 -
I'd also like to give praise to those who are working Xmas day. Have a good day and enjoy your Xmas dinner whether its today or another day due to work commitments.0

Luckily I have never had to work Christmas Day myself but I used to work in retail so it was finish at 7pm Xmas eve and back in Boxing Day at 6am. Now I work in an office which is closed from Xmas day until 2nd Jan, so I count myself extremely lucky to be able to spend quality time with family and friends over the festive period. However I know there are many many people working in all kinds of essential services who aren't so fortunate but we none of us could manage without their hard work and dedication. Well done to all those fantastic people :T0 -
I`m a Civil Servant and the office is closed on the Statutory Bank Holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day).
So I volunteered NOT to take time off Christmas Week and New Year Week so I can use the leave at other times.
My Stepmum whi is a Radiographer was working yesterday ( Boxing Day) as it was her turn to be on-call, so she went into hospital and spent the day working there.
Like all the others I have nothing but praise for anyone who works on the Bank Holidays.0 -

Do you not get a privilege day on 24th?
My place wanted everyone out this week, only took 2 days holiday to have whole week off. They save a tonne of money by not heating the building.
I on the other hand think there is nothing special about bank holidays. The standard is 5 day weeks, that leaves 2 days a week to spend time with the family, not to mention the evenings. It's hardly traumatic to work a bank holiday.0
