Mortgage Application - Payslips

Options
I had an offer accepted on a house  and have submitted my application for a mortgage. The online tracking showed that they are requesting most recent payslip which I sent off several days ago. The status was updated yesterday to say they'd received it and it was awaiting approval.

I received a phone call from the mortgage provider (Nationwide) today to say that they can't read any of the figures on the payslip ... all that is legible is the field labels e.g. tax code, gross etc.

This is odd, as it's perfectly legible when you look at it. It's one of those printed payslips that has the security backing and I'm guessing what's happened is that the department receiving the documentation has photo-copied it (and / or scanned it) in order to enter it into their system and this has caused the security backing to show through thus making the information on the payslip illegible.

They are now going to have to write to my work and get written confirmation of my earnings from them. Well that's just great at this time of year, as everyone involved with the payroll is off until 6th January ... and the "subject to mortgage" condition of the offer has to be removed by 17th Jan.

Sigh.

Anyone else had issues like this ... ?

Steve

No. We scan into 150 dpi black and white and upload to the case and I don't ever remember having a problem.

Having to copy, certify, add the reference number and fax to Halifax is more problematic and we often have issues where they say they can't read what's been sent.

If you give Nationwide a fax number or email address, they will issue the reference that way and it can be faxed back so save time. It has to be stamped, signed and the recipient's name written on it. If there's no stamp, a blank letterhead has to be attached to the returned form.

Holiday Haggler I've been Money Tipped!
I work in HR and we've been faced with Nationwide losing quite a few references. Fortunately most of the requests have come via my mortgage broker. I've now taken to scanning the reference and the fax transaction report to them.
  • as it is nationwide you could have taken it to one of their branches, got the manager to copy and sign it and then he could have sent it to head office
  • My work faxed the required confirmation of earnings to them on 27/12/2013, but as yet no sign that they've actually got it yet. Sigh. Perhaps the recipient is off on annual leave. Frustrating, but understandable at this time of year I guess.

Local Nationwide branch isn't that nearby, and this weekend will be my first chance to pop in. Hopefully they'll have scanned and processed the fax by then but if not looks like I'll have to go down the route of getting the branch manager to copy it and sign it and sent it off.

A reference doesn't go to an individual. It's faxed back to the docs fax number 01604 852808.

It's received, then added to the case and queued for an underwriter to sign it off. Once that's done, it's on to the next issue, if any.

This is normally a SLA of 48 hours.

Remember what I said, it has to be absolutely spot on. If there's a single thing missing, or out of place, it will be rejected and they aren't always great at telling you. More often than not, the requirement simply reappears on the case tracking and you have to establish it's been re-issued and what was wrong with it.
