Fridge? Freezer? Freeview box? PC? Router? Mobile phones charging? Telephone? Answerphone?
How long are the showers, what's the kW rating of the shower? Is that 2 showers/day, or 2/day each and how many of you?
How long is the oven on for, what's the kW rating?0 -
wow that is high, I use 9 units a day but that is for very basic stuff.
How long have you been keeping a check on your usage?
I good way is to check every 24 hours, and write down the extra stuff you use and the big items you use, then the days you don't use something you will so how much of a drop in units it makes.
Cooking in an electric oven can use loads, 2-3 units for an hour.
Depending what you heater is wattage wise, again that can use a lot, a 1kw heater will use 1 unit an hour, I have a 3kw heater so that uses 3 units an hour(never on now) this soon adds up.
Showers use loads, much more than you would think, again check the label and work it out, even boiling a kettle uses maybe 3 units an hour, boil it 5 times a day, full to the brim and you will be nearly boiling it for the full hour so using 3-4 units.
what you need to do if you really want to get to grips with your usage is go around your home and start checking what wattage everything is, most will have a label telling you the wattage.
My Tv is only 3 years old but it uses 235watts an hour, not loads but add in your washing machine and dryer etc and again it adds up fast.
so add them up, then times the wattage by how many hours it's on, one unit is 1000watts or 1kw, so either work it out in watts then change to Kw to times by the price per unit, which will be around 14p a unit, then add on the daily standing charge which will be about 26p depending who you are with and which tariff you are on.
Doing this will give you an idea what you can cut back on, maybe washing every other day, same with the dish washer, etc0 -
