I brought one for my husband and when he turned it on the language was Italian, he has tried for a couple of hours to change it to English, done everything he has been told to do but it still goes back to the Italian language, could it be faulty?

Unlikely to be faulty just setup wrong .
Factory reset should bring setup back ,0 -
Bought a kindle fire HD from Amazon a few months ago and setup was in English from the word go. Had a similar problem with Galaxy S3 which was supposed to be for the UK market, when i carried out a factory reset, due to some of the apps being in Chinese, the phone reverted totally to Chinese, turned out the phone was only intended for the Chinese market.0
