2 years ago I cleaned up my financial mess and paid everyone in full. Since then I havn't used credit (apart from a phone contract) but recently decided to get a credit card for a little back up and flexibility and to rebuild a history. Plan to use once/twice each month and then pay in full.

Applied to Aqua via the soft link on this site.
Phoned them after 14 days to get told ''yes all approved and card is on the way within 14 days'' Nothing arrived.
Phoned again to be told ''due to data protection (I'd passed security) all we can say is that something will arrive in the post soon''. Nothing arrived

Phoned again today and was put on hold immediately I had stated my postcode (didn't ask for a name even) then asked name and DoB and then on hold again then asked for letters from my secret question which I had forgotten about and when I said that they said ''its mothers middle name'' Answered that correctly to be told ''thats not right'' then on hold again.
Finally told ''as you failed security you need to send us a copy of driving licence and a recent utility bill for us to proceed''
Seems odd to me to move from ''issued'' to wanting DL and bill ??? - does all that sound OK to you experts or should I go elsewhere.

It's OK to be asked for the extra proofs.
And telling lies is pretty much the norm for all customer services - when they don't know something, but are reluctant to admit this.

I think they might have said maiden name not middle name. Mother's middle name is an unusual security question.

Try calling back and state that you might have misheard the question. You might be able to pass the security check without having to send the requested documents.
