Outdoor electric meter box broken who pays for replacement?

We have out electric meter outdoors (the one where you check your usage every couple of months - not the pay as you go type).
For years we haven't had the key for it (it's permanently unlocked) and the hinges are broken.
It's just balances of one prong (out of two) from one of the hinge that rests on the slot on the box and the oter side is duct taped.
Today (windy) the door has fallen off three or four times.
Question:
1) whose resposibile for this? Do we pay anything if we report this to the electricity company to repalce?
2) supose it's too cost prohibitive to change the whole box, can we just change the locks so we can at least lock/unlock it and the lock should at least keep the box secure.

in a word , you... its your box, buy a new one from online sellers. The suppliers wont take responsibility for anything more than a broken latch .You can buy a whole new door. There was a company who s name began with Moorland ? who supplied them. The latches are about £3.50, easily fitted. We carry a few with us to replace any which break as we go round0

- buy a new door complete with hinges, lock & key
- then fit it
- then make sure its locked to avoid a repeat

Some Dno's may replace your meter box door for you for free as a one off. It's worth contacting yours and asking the question.0
