Personal Care includes: assistance with dressing, feeding, washing and toileting, as well as advice, encouragement and emotional and psychological support. The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) defines this as attention required in connection with bodily functions. Bodily functions can include dressing, washing, bathing or shaving, toileting, getting in or out of bed, eating, drinking, taking medication, communicating. Seeing and hearing are also considered to be bodily functionsWhy pay full price when you may get it YS

Most conditions have needs that could well include at least one of the above. Does that mean that the majority of the population are disabled?
Thought I'd take a bite at the troll hook for the benefit of the OP!
Whilst everyone has personal needs if you can't manage these alone as a well person under 65 could be expected to then you can be considered for DLA as you are fully aware from your previous posts. And yes, before you launch in on it bigbrotherarnone I will be eligible for PIP, probably ERC and ERM.
I get MRC for help with medication as im often too unwell to take medication without physical help and need to stick to strict regime of timings I have trouble with. This includes help at night.
I need help with washing and drying myself aswell as using the loo. Getting dressed myself is possible with certain clothes but, in certain circumstances where I need " work clothing" and shoes I need help getting dressed.
I've adapted my home so I can use chairs and a bed myself as I want to be as independent as possible. If I choose food carefully I can feed myself without help - given up eating rice and couscous as just too messy. My DH does the meals for us.
Getting up, washed, dressed in pjs and taking meds takes me a good 2 hours in the morning. When I was well I could manage similar in 10minutes!
OP, please don't be deterred from applying by negative connotations of asking for DLA. The extra bit of money can mean you can afford adaptations and some carer support. DLA can also mean your family is under less pressure too.0 -

My understanding is that we are a social welfare state and this sort of support is valid. I'm happy to pay my taxes as a contribution to the cost.
My objection is where my hard earned taxes are paid to people who either claim fraudulently or are in their position through their own making.0 -
You think so?
Where ATOS/CAPITA are involved, where these face to face assessments are involved, many will be very disappointed with the end result.
All of those that were in receipt of IB 'believed' that they would be given ESA. Seems strange that almost 40% of them on transfer over were told to get a job as they were fit enough to work.
You also did not mention that substantial numbers win their appeals. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Substantial? the current figures show that after taking into account appeals the actual number is running at 34% of those that have been found fit for work.
So effectively after exhausting the appeal system, there are for every 3 claimants, 1 is told to find a job. Doesn't say much for what was happening when IB was around.
Put it another way 34% of IB claimants were found to be 'swinging the lead' and quite happy to stay on IB.
As you have posted, and been corrected on this matter numerous times under previous aliases, here goes again.
To claim this makes as much sense as saying that when personal allowances are raised, people in earlier years were tax cheats for underpaying.
It also misses out the fact that for some people, it was not in their interests to appeal - even though they might have won such an appeal, simply because they would get no more money.
For example, those that could claim some other benefit - for example a mom on IB with a child under seven (not as now five) would be entitled to IS with no form-filling, as would someone who is caring for a relative who is getting high-rate DLA.0 -
I should have realised in my last post, I'm slipping. Welcome back Andy. You should get a hobby in your retirement, one that doesn't involve trolling.0

If Solbert had ever had any dealings with the system he would soon realise that it is very confusing and intimidating and that alone stops many people, particularly older and disabled people continuing with claims. That and the fact that if you have to appeal you will be on the reduced "assessment" rates for how ever long the appeal takes and in many cases this can be over 2 years !!
Are there people abusing the system ? Of course there are !! It does not matter what , where or who there will always be people abusing the system.....................I'm sure there will be people in work who do not pull their weight or who falsely claim extra overtime or take uncalled for "sickies" or whatever else, that unfortunately is the nature of some people.
But because some people abuse something it should not mean that everyone should be treated as being one of those abusers.
If the likes of Solbert are worried about what abuses are made to the "taxes" they have paid why don't they direct their ire at the multinationals who avoid the payment of taxation, the amounts of which would make the "benefits abuse" amounts appear miniscule.0 -
I have had many dealings with the DWP in respect of benefit matters.
If it takes to change things for everybody to make it more difficult for the system to be abused by others then I am all for it.
But you are quite happy for YOU to abuse it Andy !
Oh yep Andy knows how to play the benefits system ... He is trying to currently work out how he can still claim benefit when a £300k inheritance hits his bank account ...
Oh and lets not forget who pays for Flo's Mulberry handbags ! We do ! Im glad the tramping round the shops with your daughter to choose it didn't affect her DLA high rate mobility claim !!!or did Flo manage to find this within 50 meters ?Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
