Thanks for that. I have already requested a voltage logger but will press for this again. Thankfully we have no issues with other appliances just lights that are more noticeable at this time of year especially.

New issue is power surges which to date have fried a few household appliances.

Worth fitting surge protectors if you are prone to surges. Some years back we had equipment in a factory near Ballycastle, the building was hit by lightening which did serious damage. Lights were blown apart, computers destroyed. Our kit had surge protectors, they were destroyed but the delicate electronic kit was unharmed. Couple of years later it happened again!
Surge protectors don't even need to be wired in. They can be plugged into vacant sockets and left switched on. Better than having to fight with insurance company and NIE for the cost of damaged appliances.

Looks like progress. NIE man coming out to fit voltage monitor on Friday all being well. Will be interesting to see if I see any disturbances in supply over Christmas day / boxing day assuming that any high power / welding etc equipment may well not be in use over these days.

I do have to fix my gate tomorrow / boxing day due to the wind yesterday but that's another story. It's just strange how the neighbours who are fed off the same transformer are not affected. Either they truly are not or they don't notice it.

The results of the voltage monitor will be interesting to see when it's been in place for a week.
    Regards, Robin.

I have a cousin who always starts major welding projects in his shed over the festive season, just to get away from the in-laws

This happens to us very occasionally but mostly when it's windy. It's been happening quite a lot over the last few days. It doesn't seem to do any harm though so we don't give it any thought.

There was one night earlier in the year it was so bad that the little "touch to start" lights we have beside our bed were going out. Very odd I thought but it hasn't happened since.

If like me you have an overhead supply, your neighbour could be on a different phase to you and not have problems. There are four overhead cables down my lane as someone nearby has a 3 phase supply in a workshop. I had to get moved on to a different phase (cable) as my lights dimmed every time a welder was in use at the workshop. The reality of course is that its not just the lights that are affected.
In the end NIE brought in a completely new supply from a different transformer.

We definitely don't have overhead supply close by but I don't know what way the cabling is half a mile down the road.

Sorry, my reply was really directed to the original poster RTNI. :)
