Anyone know where I can pick up some cheap kilner jars? They rock but cost a packet!

Hi Generali,
There are some suggestions of where to get them on these older threads:
Kilner type jars
Kilner Jar Gaskets?
Otherwise you could try your local freecycle or they often turn up at car bootsales.

places that sell supplies for making your own bath salts sell them. My mum gives me the old douwe egberts glass jars but obviously depends what you are using it for!0

Hi, I used to use them but now I just use normal jars which have an undamaged lid. For jam they seal and the 'buton' goes down with a satisfying pop after cooling for an hour or so. I've even used them for bottling fruit - leaving the lid placed on top to sterilise but not screwed on at all. Just screw it up when taken from the oven. I used some four year old damsons 2 weeks ago and we are all still here fit and well. They were in large pickled onion jars and were fine.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

Thanks everybody. Mrs Generali has tried freecycle (as it's the cheapest!). Will try Tescos after that.
I've just taken an allotment and I've got 4 plum trees so I reckon I'll want a lot of jars!0 -
Ikea do the same size as the smaller Tesco ones for £1, or 99p, cant remember, also a couple of sizes larger as well. They come with a white-ish 'rubber' ring which can be replaced next time you use them with the standard kilner type ring. Hope this helps.0

Mrs Generali likes nothing better than a stroll around Ikea with the Generalissimos. She's booked in to go in a couple of weeks so will ask her to pick up a couple of dozen.0

Ikea are quite good, but you can't beat the proper kilner jars and I get mine from TK max, depending on size they start at £4.99 - £6.99 for a 3 pack of small or medium, I don't know what the larger ones cost, it depends on when they get them inBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
