Scotrail WIFI

We paid 2 million tax money in Scotland to provide "some carriages" with WIFI.
The WIFI is so bad (on ios 4-7, android 2.2-4.1) that even in VIM (a old school text editor) it took me 23 minutes to download a 4kb text file.
This is not a peak time, this is 6 months, from 7am-11pm.
I could have connected all trains, via satellight (expensive) broadband for 5 years for 817k pounds. The most expensive option possible provided by France.
Where did this money go? For what was paid, I would say we have been given a 30k solution and someone banked 1.9 million.
Who was it? How do I find out A) who was in charge of this, and
who stole the public money?
I am so fed up of waste. I am an IT dude who spends 3 hours person time per day keeping up with tech to ensure my job, I remember I read that NHS was paying £819 per 12 batch of surgeons paper towels which is literally no different from the ones you used between 1960-1990 at school.
No wonder we are skint. Is the world just really full of people who can milk cash, even those you put in power are out to furnish people they know with huge funds? I cannot imagine the waste of the NHS. I would honestly say 1/3 of NHS budget, billions of sterling pounds, are going to companies for nothing. Like me selling you a pencil for 4000 including tax then just sitting back for a decade and watch the money roll in (on a contract which was signed by my friend in 1998)

Works fine for me when I'm on the train - only connecting to Facebook and Twitter, or Live Scores for the footie scores, but I'd imagine that images and videos are a whole lot bigger than a 4kb text file.
That's on a Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android version 4.1.2
Maybe depends on which line your on, and how many other people are using the bandwidth (It tells you when you connect). Personally, if it was that bad, I'd switch off wifi and just use my 3G, which is fast enough for what I need it for.
If you think you can do it cheaper, why not put in a bid when the tender is next up for renewal ?Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid

It works fine for me, I travel Glasgow to Inverness regularly and it's generally not a problem.
I believe there was a restriction put on it due to some people abusing the wifi but I'm told that's been fixed. You're maybe just unlucky and on a very busy service.Feb 2024:

Hi,
I think it's fine also, do you need to be streaming a film whilst travelling, why not have something on lappy to watch.
Here's a bit info.0 -

You want to be careful of openly accusing people of theft without any proof.
The contract for the wifi installation went to a company called Icomera,

and it was a committee of Transport Scotland people who awarded the contract.0 -

If tax money was used, use the Freedom of Information Act to get further information from the government.0
