Nexus 7 Android 4.4.2 problems

I am having problems with my Nexus 7 after the latest firmware upgrade by Google...
The left and right side "on screen" buttons often fail to operate when playing games - they do weird things like bring up a LARGE image of the button.

This only started to happen when I used the latest upgrade (4.4.2) - is there anyway to return to the previous state ?
I did back it up prior to the upgrade - but this is only data - not operating system....

Return would require either vendor or service repair .
or flash a stock rom back see xda developers your model.
Of course if you have a full backup of your OS / Phone pre the update you can roll back .
Might be worth factory resetting before anything that requires you to backup any wanted data and will restore to out of the box state with 4.4.2 firmware .

The Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit is a pretty straightforward and easy to use utility that as well as rooting can restore you back to probably all of the stock roms for the Nexus 7.

Probably better trying a factory reset first though and seraching to see if anybody else has had this issue or you are unique.

I am currently having a chat with Google support - who have told me to clear the cache (no effect) and to try tapping the screen 3 times (yes it does pop back - but on the fourth tap - it goes HUGE again)

Sounds like you'll have to try a factory reset (after backing up your data just to be safe!!!!)

it's usually the first things Google will tell you to do.
what apps games are you seeing this problem in?
    Laters

It turned out to be a setting that had been changed by the update - the
    MAGNIFICATION GESTURES had become set
I am pretty sure that I had nothing to do with it - so I have informed Google that they may have a problem ...
