Had a similar experience, started a day after pay-day and ended up working over 6 weeks without any pay, that was a slog !
The good news these days is, if the Company you are starting for has a HR department, contact them as soon as possible, explain the situation and they should give you a wee advance to bridge the gap before you get paid properly.0 -

All Civil Service workers are paid like this. It's a bit uncomfortable initially, but great when your a seasonal worker like me, and get a full month's pay in November.0
