National Lottery error with Direct Debit

When the lottery changed on 1st October we had previously decided to reduce our weekly online playslip (paid by monthly Direct Debit) from 5 tickets (£5) to 2 tickets (£4). This was done in August, and the change took place immediately, so for the following few weeks, we only paid £2 per week until 1st October.
However, I've only just found out that for some reason, they started entering 5 tickets again at a cost of £10 instead of only 2 tickets, and the Direct Debits were adjusted without our knowledge.
I have contacted Camelot, as by my reckoning we have paid £78 too much since 1st Oct.

and you didn't notice this on your October and November bank statements how?
When the rules changed on 1st Oct I got a letter from Camelot stating my new DD minimum and maximum, along with another copy of the DD guarantee, as the new payments were double the previous instruction. Did you not receive this letter?0 -

Why has it taken until now for you to find this out?
If you cannot get Camelot to refund you can ask your bank to refund under the direct debit indemnity.
However they might refuse to let you pay by D/D in future so if your numbers come up do them manually!0 -

Admittedly I should have noticed before now, I didn't check through bank statements.
I don't recall getting a letter.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -

Yip, the fact that I reduced the number of lines is recorded against my account on their website.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -
Presumably you would have still complained even if one of the "cancelled" lines had won?0

We have won £25 since the change, but I don't know if it was from one of the cancelled lines or not.Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives0 -
You National Lottery account simply has a balance which is added to when the direct debit is taken. The cost of your tickets is then taken from this.
If they've been taking £10, but you'e only been using £4, just login to your account and check your 'Direct Debit balance' or whatever it's called (I haven't used my account in a while).
Something similar happened to me, and I was able to refund the remaining balance back into my bank account.0 -

If you login to your account you can see each ticket and whether or not its won. Since you'll know which tickets you cancelled, you can clearly see if the winning ticket was a cancelled one or not.
You can also confirm your balance whilst you are there and see exactly what has been bought using that balance. You never know, you may have a credit balance of £78 !0
