Mini Cooper Diesel

Investigating buying a new Mini Cooper Diesel 1.6

Anyone know if it's possible to buy these anywhere at a discount from list price - about 14200, or perhaps getting some of the (many) optional extras thrown in?

Appreciate there's a lot of demand for these vehicles but can you play one dealer against another?

The usual suspects such as drivethedeal.com and autobuytel only feature these cars at list prices).

    You'll be lucky!!

Try This Weeks Best Deals links in http://www.honestjohn.co.uk

Then think about saving some £$£$ & buy a 1.5(petrol) Suxuki Swift instead!!

Might I also suggest you consider looking at a a Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet diesel insted, as they can be bought new for sub=£6k and are overall a much better drive than the Mini Diesel.

I bought one for me & my lad to share, and it's a real "little red pocket rocket" ... Good acceleration, 100mph+ , circa 50-65mpg depending on how hard we drive it, and £40 year Road Tax.

    Overall, it's a VERY under-rated car.

note - this is the Yaris Diesel unit, and is no ball of fire.

The old MINI had the 1.4 Yaris diesel. The new MINI has the 1.6 PSA joint venture diesel.

    WARNING RUDENESS AHEAD

There's a reason the new BMW MINI has become known as the BMW CLITEROUS and it's because every %$%&& got one !

BMW realise this little car is a cash cow and are milking it for every DM, were they to remain purely geared toward sport with the Coopers then the purchase of a Mini could be justified but diesels and Mini One are imo pointless.

A diesel purchase is for better mpg due to increased mileage and frankly there are much much better cars in which to travel thousands of miles.

Buying a Mini for individuality is pointless, they are everywhere, buying a diesel is pointless there are MUCH better cars out there, buying a One is equally pointles as per the diesel.

The only reason to purchase a Mini is for the Cooper variants because you enjoy driving a sporty little car, chucking it around and loving the thrill of driving.

If you want a little diesel it should be the Grande Punto, the Clio 1.5 106 or even better an Ibiza FR tdi, but a diesel Mini, no.

Isn't that reason enough for wanting a Mini??!

The R56 Diesel Cooper is a smashing car and should not be overlooked!

Sadly Mini will rarely offer a discount but may throw in perhaps something to entice you depending on how their sales have been that month! When I say small I really do mean small.....perhaps rubber car mats!

Thanks all for your input thus far.

The Cooper D scores over the Suzuki Swift in that it has road tax of 35 quid pa, and can be fully written off (financially!) in a single year if company purchased. It's also worth 60% of its original value after three years - which I doubt would be the case with the Suzuki.

Still, it's an expensive car for what it is.

Vikingaero: will have a look at the forum you mention. Thanks.

Despite a few issues the MINI is a very well built and reliable car. You do pay a premium price but in that class not much is going to touch it quality wise.

As another poster said, the exclusivity goes down as they fly out of the showroom. Dealers rarely offer any discounts because they simply don't need to.
