Currys Xmas Hell

Options
I have to just have a rant. I ordered online from Currys, as the cheaper Amazon was temporarily out of stock. Curry's sent and charged me for 2 items, even though I only ordered 1, which defeated the object of easy online shopping, because now I had to return one and time was short. I was so annoyed that I decided to return both. To get a refund before xmas my only option was to go in person to the store, miles away. I went today, and after watching the assistant enter my details into a computer more than twenty times, and shake his head, I was told I could not be refunded today because the systems were down, I would have to come back. I was very annoyed and started to leave, then was told I couldn't leave the store with my items, until I had signed ID forms and release papers. It didn't make sense! I demanded to see the manager, but he confirmed that I'd have to sign forms. I argued till I was starting to shake, it was my property, until I was refunded, I had no intention of leaving the items there without my money back. I didn't understand what was going on, it was like I was in some Kafka novel. Finally, after 1 irrate hour in there I got a refund. Turns out the staff had made a mistake.

I imagine Currys/PC World staff are paid minimum wage. You know what? It shows. I wont be shopping there again.

  • Another perfect example of why High Street shops are in decline and internet retailers such as Amazon are reaping the benefits.

I gave up giving money to any of the major bricks and mortar shops long ago and if/when more of them close down, they will only have had themselves to blame.
  • John Lewis is the one bricks and mortar store I still enjoy using. British retailers need to improve their training and customer handling skills. In the USA it's so much better, staff are super polite and efficient.
  • I do use John Lewis, but as the nearest one to me if a fair drive away, I tend to order online and either get the items delivered to my house, or I collect from a Waitrose supermarket which is only a couple of miles away.

So you ordered something and got two of them and was so annoyed you brought both back to be refunded? You didnt understand why? Did you ask them why?

As for your comment about them being on minimum wage, you deserved to be treated that way, if they did of course.

The problem is with currys/pc world they are so sales focused...I had to go back twice this year regarding software, the first time they took payment twice, took a week to get the refund back, second time, geezer was so determined to get me signed up as a business customer...he did not activate my office software card...both times had to repeatedly spend at least half an hour explaining ,although was given a £10 voucher for the hassle
I refer to my byline below ...

    Ad hominem
An attack upon an opponent in order to discredit their arguement or opinion. Ad hominems are used by immature and/or unintelligent people because they are unable to counter their opponent using logic and intelligence.

I did email customer services to ask about what happened with the double delivery, and no response to the email in 3 days. I called their premium customer services line, but couldn't get through, so I decided I should go to the shop. At the shop the situation was as I described.

I mentioned minimum wage, because I have worked in retail, and I know that when, as staff, you are treated poorly and paid badly, there is not a lot of incentive to be good or get better at your job. I was trying to direct my annoyance to Currys as a corporation, rather than individual staff, as Currys are the ones that have the store policies and dictate actions of customer service.

John Lewis staff at least get a share of profits, and they are always very helpful and good at their jobs. It's a win win situation. Treat your staff well, train them well, and customers will be happy.

I'd imagine Currys staff are paid quite well, they certainly used to be.

When I worked at Comet 7-8 years ago £10 an hour was considered a bad day. I'd expect around £14 as standard.

This is sales staff though, I'd imagine customer services are paid less, although it'll still be considerably above minimum wage.
