Item damaged in post, buyer left neg, now wants compensating

Hi All
I sent an item last week and thought I'd packaged it really well. The buyer left me a negative this morning which said very disappointed as the item was broken.

I know it left my house in one piece so can only assume it was broken in transit. She has since contacted me (with picture as proof of breakage) to ask what I'm going to do about it? Will I refund or replace....but as she has already left a neg what should I do? I want to do the right thing by the buyer but I'm disappointed to be left with a neg if I do all I can to put this situation right. I can easily refund her but then the neg will still intimate that I sent a broken item out...

All ideas gratefully received

You still need to refund I'm afraid, buyer will win a SNAD case.

You should be able to claim from whichever service you used if the item was broken in transit, provided the item isn't excluded under the services t&c's
  • Ok thanks. Can I ask them to withdraw the negative?

You can ask, but they don't have to.

Do not do anything, make them go via E_bay.
    Then just co-operate with E-Bay.

It may not even be the same item they return, many treat E-bay a a free broken item replacement service.
    Be happy...;)

I agree. Co-operate with eBay. Your duty to the buyer has finished as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately buyer is still entitled to a full refund, but I do agree I would in this case ask them to go via ebay and ask for the item to be returned.

  • I messaged them and said I would be happy to refund but I'd appreciate them considering revising their negative feedback and giving me the benefit of the doubt that the item was damaged in transit and they said they would but if I insist on going through the ebay process does this make it more difficult for them to revise their feedback?

I hate buyers who leave a neg without contact.

I'd only refund once they'd removed the neg, otherwise I'd make them send it back tracked at their own expense before giving a refund.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Unfortunately eBay would disagree.

You should be able to claim a refund from Royal Mail if you fill a claims form in. Buyers are very quick to leave negative & its obvious that you would not send a broken item..infuriates me..and sadly, Ebay is all about the buyers now.
I had a similar situation & the buyer did remove the negative feedback so I would certainly insist on that before you refund her. Good luck.
