Im vegan which means my diet restricts some foods obviously, but I dont mind trying something new. I like polenta and spelt as well. I dont really like quinoa but I ate a salad with it in it a few weeks ago and it was ok.
I also dont mind eating the same thing a few nights in a row, I live on my own so I can eat what I like without anyone bothering me.0 -
 On Friday i tried Profiteroles for the first time:female: INFP :female:0

I am quite looking forward to trying new thingsI think the main thing that has been stopping me is the money. If i dont like something (or if the kids dont), then i have wasted a whole meal and have to make something else. That costs money.
It's similar for me. I want to try new things, but if I don't like it, I see it as a waste of money so tend to not bother with new things.0 -

Try adding a little of a new ingredient to a meal so it's not wasted, then if it does not go down too well, try it cooked a different way (or disguised) until used, that way you will have less if any waste.
You can always do a small new ingredient on the side for all to try and decide if it's a yes again or no thank you.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
I try a new recipe or food when I come across something I fancy the look of. Otherwise I stick to tried and tested because I find a new recipe means new ingredients which costs a lot, and I have a fear of throwing/wasting food!
Saying the I was recommended Chicken Jambalaya on a thread on here, and it's now on the menu plan monthly using leftovers.
I am slowly going through my good food magazines for new inspiration...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -

I take the same line with my adult house hold as my mother and boarding school did when I was a child.....its a shame its not to your taste because its what there is today.
I was taught to was good manners to eat all but the genuinely inedible. (And as the child of someone who worked in some odd places over seas I are some odd and almost inedible things!). If its truly awful and everything has been tried then there is a piece of bread and butter, a glass of milk and a piece of fruit to fill the hole!
If you do one adventurous night a week and let everybody take a turn in choosing the 'new' food it will help keep everyone engaged I think.0 -

I tend to cook it as something to accompany stuff like veggie sausages, like a mash potato. But theres loads of things you can do with it

Cornbread is made from polenta.
I have had it in a restaurant, served as an side order and was lovely.
theres a good Nigella recipe for chilli con carne topped with polenta.

I agree with a previous poster, reduced items are a great way of trying out new things. Buy it and look up a recipe via Mr Google.0 -
We often fall into bad habits and eat the same things for weeks on end and then I will take it upon myself to try different things and for a while we will have lots of variety before slowly slipping back into bad habits.
I am now off on maternity leave for a few months and once the baby is safely here and I have caught my breath I full intend to create more interesting meals on a lower budgetTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
