I want to set up online banking with HSBC, I already have an account with them.
When I ring the phone number they say I have to go into a branch with photo ID to set up online banking.
Is there any other way of doing it without a 30 mile round trip to a branch ??

Do you have telephone banking set up with HSBC?
If NO then the online registration can't be done (you need the telephone banking passcode).
If YES it should be possible to do it online.
If them's the rules... you'll have to call into a branch... unless disabled and have great difficulty getting out, when you could try playing that card to see what HSBC can do to accommodate you.
NB It may be possible to set up a telephone banking security passcode over the 'phone. Check out the HSBC website contact numbers https://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/contact-us#textphone using the phonebook link.0 -
When registering you are asked for a random 3 digits from your telephone banking security number.
Have you forgotten your security number? If so that is why you need to go into a branch with ID in order to reset that number.
While there register for online banking. You will receive a 'secure key' and online banking activation instructions by post.0 -

To get one I have to go into a branch.......0
