OH's credit report shows a default...grrrrr (Virgin Media)

We cancelled Virgin Media after being with them for 3 years with no late payments or anything. When OH called they told him that there was nothing left to pay on the account and that was that.
2 months later he received a letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery demanding payment of £33...
Just called Virgin...dates below
We cancelled on 01/12/12 and told that nothing was left to pay.
They claim they sent us a letter on 8th Jan and 7th Feb regarding the £33.28. We didn't receive either of these. The £33 was from 26th December - 8th January
They passed the debt to Moorcroft Recovery the first week of Feb. We paid Moorcroft on 28th Feb.
Filed a complaint on 21st March 2013, but we didn't receive anything back.
OH's credit file shows a settled default and 8 missed payments. Is that right?!

Did you get anything in writing to say that the account was clear.
If you know when you rang to cancel, ask them to look for the telephone recording and listen to that.
Have you moved house at all, or maybe got something through the post from them, thought that it was maybe junk because you were free and clear and binned it unopened, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If you filed a complaint in March, and heard nothing, why didn't you chase it up say after a few weeks..make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Nope, we didn't receive anything from Virgin Media. If we did, we would've paid it; it's only £33.
The default was posted on 7th February 2013. All I want to know is if they can put the report to default 1 month after the bill was supposedly posted?0 -

You need to re-open your complaint, and then refer to the FOS (and ICO if necessary).
A question though...you must have cancelled the DDI? I've no experience with cable TV, but when I terminate a relationship with other providers (eg credit cards) I always leave the DDI in place for a couple of months afterwards just in case. Something to bear in mind for future?Filed a complaint on 21st March 2013, but we didn't receive anything back.0 -

You must have known that the episode would lead to problems with his (and yours, through association?) credit files? I mean, you knew they were 'debt collectors'!
I didn't really have any control with OH's virgin contract at this point. It was his account, his flat etc so not really my place to read his letters etc.
I don't know if he cancelled the dd straight away or whatever happened tbh.
I am just helping him write this email to consumerunderwriters - at least this way I can help him track it etc. Hopefully they'll remove the default. Even 1 late payment mark is better than a default!!
Thank you for your help. I am just going to email and see what they say. The guy is calling back tomorrow.0 -

I had a similar issue with Virgin Media. I wouldn't waste time with the muppets in their complaints department, and send an email with all the details to executiveteam@virginmedia.co.uk These guys actually take their time to read the notes on your file and as long as there is confirmation of what you said then they will remove it completely - at least they did for me. I think once I sent an email to them it was dealt with within 24 hours, including confirmation from their underwriters.
Still wouldn't use them again for anything... ever!!0
