Address problem! Flat C/Flat 3/First Floor Flat etc!!

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of an issue with my address and I would like to know how much of an impact it really has on credit applications etc.

I live in a flat, we call it Flat C, there is a C on the door and on the door bell and most of my credit accounts have it recorded as Flat C. A couple just have the house number and not the Flat C and Royal Mail have it listed like this, just the house number and no seperate flats. Its never bothered me enough to contact Royal Mail to change it and I am not sure how easy it is for them to do it.

The problem is my local council (Westminster) have it recorded as First Floor Flat and I have recently found out my electoral roll information is not linked to my main credit file as the address doesn't match. The council refuse to amend it, fair enough but annoying all the same. I have managed to get Experian to link the two files together but having a bit more trouble with the other 2.

My question really is should I phone everyone and change the address to First Floor? Should I insist the council change it? Or should I forget all about it and hope I dont need any new credit cards any time soon?

One unrelated question I would like to ask is if BT report data to the credit reference agencies as I have a phone/broadband and I cant see it anywhere, they have my address as Flat 3!

Thanks in advance
Nick

You can notify RM of your actual address.
However, does your flat have its own letterbox or a communal one?
I assume its a converted house?
  • Thanks for the reply, yes you are right its a converted house so I do not have my own letterbox, post gets put through the main door.

In which case RM are correct - there is only a single postal delivery point at your address, and there is no requirement for any further identifier (the same holds true for vanity house names).

The council make the distinction due to needing a separation between legal liabilities of the respective owners, rather then bring jointly held liable for the CT for the entire property. As this data is shared with the Electoral Registration service, this is what is used.

You appear to be dancing to the tune of the CRA's - lack of any link to ER data will not in itself be an issue especially if your other transactions are parsed correctly to your RM address.
