That is something I had already said myself.

On these boards I tend to try and just answer the question asked because I feel overloading someone with so much info at once and at a trying time such as after a recent death is counter productive. Maybe I am wrong there I dont know

I do not know either. It just seemed to me that the point needed to be made more clearly. Hopefully the OP has all this in hand!
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
  • Hi folks, Thanks for all the advice, but don't worry about probate or other assets - its all in hand and we know what we are doing with the rest of it thanks. Its not the first time we have gone through this kind of thing unfortunately, but it is the first time we have had to deal with a car on finance.

Here's what has happened so far. We contacted Fiat Finance and they send one of their guys around to collect the car. Some paperwork was filled in and we duly sent off the part of the registration document to the DVLA that confirms its gone back to the finance company.

We have been told that it will go to auction in the next few weeks, and we will have to wait and see what the financial outcome will be as it depends on how much the sale of the car raises. More bulletins and updates as and when.

Your input is of great comfort. Thank you all!

Thats exactly what I thought. If it makes enough (unlikely) to pay the finance and then some you could actually end up with money back.

A few years ago I used to work for a company that specialised in collecting finance and lease cars in this situation and of course when the lease period was up. If this had been for one of the other finance companies I could have been more certain but I never dealt with a fiat finance car. If you want to be certain of the value the car makes in auction you should ask which auction house it is going to and attend. I would suspect it will be either BCA SMA or Manheim. Unfortunately not knowing your geographical area I cannot be 100% sure

  • Hey madbadrob I think it might be Manheim they took it to. Have heard nothing about the sale but we have had a notification letter telling us of the charge for collection of the vehicle. I think it was around £275 ish. It wasn't an actual bill, so I'm guessing when the car is sold and paid for we'll get some paperwork that tells us what the outcome is.

ps to the person who said this is not our problem PERSONALLY, it most certainly is but I most certainly wish it wasn't, but people die and we have to try and deal with it as best we can.

    Thanks folks :)
