CCJ nightmare, future Mortgage, Debt-free

I enrolled with a university years ago which I dropped out off due to a number of factors, at the time I was going through financial problems so I was trying to juggle my full time work and my studies at the same time in hope of being able to pay as I go with my studies, :wall:I don’t know what I was thinking but given my poor judgment coupled with the stress and strain of my work I was taken off the course by the university because it ultimately resulted in my failing too many modules to continue, this however came quickly with a 5K CCJ in my name, as I discovered this months after because I moved house then. (I had already made a first installment of 1K to the university when I enrolled and explained my circumstances to the finance department)
This has been on my credit file since 2009, this has impacted my credit eligibility and I have been unable to pay it off so I left it as it is, my worry is I have recently gotten married and we would like to get a mortgage soon, I have been careless with my finances in the past (a few credit cards haven gone into default and I am currently making very small repayments each month via the recovery companies:eek: so they can get off my back) I am committed to straightening up my personal finance by getting out of debt for good and obviously to help us secure a mortgage, my partner on the other hand has a good credit score as she has always been excellent with money.:rotfl::dance:
I want to know how I can improve my credit rating and improve our chances of securing a mortgage without my credit history being a problem for us.

When are your defaults?
Old defaults and CCJs won't always stop you getting a mortgage, but you may have to pay a higher interest rate than those with squeaky clean files. What will your verse be?

In response to your question I had two in 2010 and one in 2009, I am making payments of between £10 & £20 monthly. How can I escape the high interest rates I might incur?0

not having the above, only way or your partner applying onlyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
