How complicated are travel insurance documents

I've just taken out travel insurance with the AA for a week's package holiday. The price was good, £13, but it involved setting up security details on an AA account and downloading three documents, 6 pages, 3 pages and 36 pages, making a total of 45 pages. I guess the most important one is the certificate so I printed that, but that doesn't have the claims number on it so I had to write that on the certificate myself. Is it this complicated with other companies? Do people print out 45 page insurance documents and take them on holiday, or just print the certificate and then remember the password for logging in if an emergency arises?

Mainly you want the claims telephone number and your policy number. Possibly the certificate but many who have insurance as part of their bank account etc dont have such things0
