You need to get an understanding about how this stuff works. The more you know, the better you will be able to tackle it.

Coupon-mad, one of the foremost experts in private parking matters has written the following very detailed advisory thread for NEWBIES permanently attached to the top of the forum index (known as a 'sticky').

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822

Please read through this and determine where you currently are in the process (i.e. being chased by debt collectors), but you first might want to have a quick overview of the whole process by reading my 'Walk Through' which is also linked within this NEWBIES sticky.

Come back after reading if you want to ask any questions.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

read the sticky thread at the top of this forum called NEWBIES-READ THIS NOW

then decide on your course of action dependent on your uk region

ideally you should have challenged the NTK with the PPC, then gone to POPLA

sounds like they passed it to DR who cannot spell
  • I didn't contest the the original ticket with anyone and I don't have the original parking ticket I purchased. Am I fighting a losing battle? If I pay will they continue to ask for money? To be honest my time is worth more than £117 but I don't want to open a can of worms where they think I'll pay anything.

if your copy and paste is correct it looks like a 2 year old wrote it !!

this PPC seem to be a member of the BPA so what you should have done is deny the NTK charge and got a popla code to contest it at popla

as you bought a ticket you dont appear to have done anything wrong, but you havent posted details from those NTD or NTK tickets so nobody knows what they are accusing you of

really need more details to help you but I would send the PPC a letter or email denying the charge and ask them to cancel or issue a popla code

we can then help you win at popla

unless the creditor is willing to go to court over this you dont have to pay anyone anything , but you should deny the charge, try and get a popla code, even get the landowner to drop the charge completely

ignoring letters is never a good idea as all you did was run out of appeal time and cause yourself this hassle

so its time to be proactive by challenging the ppc, and ignore DR

it even tells you in the NEWBIES thread to "APPEAL ANYWAY" (to the ppc)

ps:- you say you paid for a ticket, so it must be in their records, which you can insist that they check for your ticket and reg number which they have to do under BPA guidelines

if I received a parking ticket and I had paid for parking, there is no way I would pay a large payment out when I have done nothing wrong, But I would contest the charges at the earliest opportunity and certainly would not ignore the first letters at all, but I would take it to court before paying another penny out if I had complied with the terms of parking and paid as well !!!

To sort this without paying a penny would take a couple of hours to gen up on the system that you need to follow to beat them.

Just telling the truth and saying you don't intend paying wont work.

You'll need to follow the guidance on here and you'll need 2 or 3 well worded letters which can be checked on here before you send them.

But of course if your time is worth more than the £117 - just pay it and be done with it. For you it then ends totally - they won't ask for more.

Thereby perpetuating this unjust system of extracting cash from those who perhaps can ill afford it.

It's your money and your time - so it's your call too.

So what conclusion did you come to about appealing this anyway when you read the newbies sticky thread about exactly that situation re debt collector letters?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
