can son claim mums state pension?

Hi was just wondering if anyone would have any advice on this ..my partners mother died recently only aged 61 i have read on gov sites if she had no husband her son ie next of kin could claim some of her state pension..does anyone know anything about this please..thank you for reading.

    Not for the standard state pension. Are you talking about a second state pension of some sort?
  • No uknick its the standard state pension..its just i read on a gov site that some of it can be passed on to next of kin..i must have read it wrong thank you for replying anyway..merry xmas.

    But in this case the state pension hasn't even started - there's no pension to pay anyone.

    Thank you molerat i was wondering if that was what i read its just she died with nothing and my partner only works for the bin service local gov job so hes a bit of a bill left on his hands from funeral..do you know were he could find info ( il more than likely be checking as he was the only son and his head is still in a pickle with her death..61s to young to die :-( .........just read your last post thank you anyway x

    So sorry sheepmaid. One of the best sites for such information is direct.gov.uk. Sometimes there is financial help for funerals, and the funeral directors can usually direct you.
    If you're not sure, then try contacting your local CAB.
    I hope that you can enjoy some of Xmas anyway.

    Did his late mother have any kind of occupational pension?
  • Thank you jackyann x and no xylophone she stopped any policies she had years ago when she couldnt find work anymore so basically she had nothing..she had cancer for 18 months so couldnt get new policies tho she went into remission but went into hospital on the 11th of dec to have a stint fitted and on the 16th she died in hospital..anyway sorry for blabbing on..thank you everyone and happy xmas x
  • Sorry for your loss.

    Maybe there are there other family members who could help out by giving a bit towards the costs?
