Recently bought 32" hd samsung tv with built in Freeview, the only problem is i cant seem to use my DVD recorder to record the freeview channels if the tv is in standby. It will record the program if the tv is on but if you set the timer and put the tv on standby you then get a blank recording anyone any suggestions or advice on what to buy so i can record freeview.

hi there
when i bought my samsung 32 lcd i bought a panasonic dvd recorder with 160gb hard drive and freeview tuner - big advantage is I can watch one freeview channel on my telly while recording another freeview channel on dvd recorder. Panasonic seem to be the best as far as menu instructions are concerned.

It isnt possible. Your TV has the tuner inside therefore when it is off there is no digital tuner on as a result you record nothing.
You need a source to record from, either another freeview box connected to one of the inputs on the dvd recorder or a new recorder with a freeview tuner inside.
I will have a look in to the TV but that is how it will pan out I think. Your not the first person to come up agaist this problem and you wont be the last.0 -
AFAIK Unless you can find a way for the receiver part of the TV to switch on without the screen coming on, you won't be able to record to an external device while TV is STBY.
The cheapest solution would be to buy a standalone Freeview receiver and connect to your DVDR, they start at around £18.0 -
I'd ignore the last couple of posts as they are incorrect, the fact that your TV has an inbuilt timer recorder means you are part way there.
Simple advice but I would read the manual. If you are setting the TV timer correctly then the freeview tuner is active even in standby, however if it's like a Panasonic IDTV, only 1 of the scart sockets will be outputting the signal so it's likely your DVDrecorder is on the wrong scart. I found out the hard way with missing recordings as I was connected to AV1 but it was AV2 that had the only signal in Standby(also teh TV should have a second LED indicating when the timer/output is active whilst in standby)0 -
Yep I had a look round and found the manual this morning and you need to read it it will tell you what you need to do. I had a suspicion that there would be somthing in there to solve the problem as Woby_tide says.0

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you, but I did say "AFAIK unless you can find a way for the receiver to switch on...". So if you read the instructions you will, hopefully, find out how to do this.0
