Does anyone know of a gas tariff with no standing charge?
And if so, is it worth switching?
I use very little gas - only for cooking. I switched from npower to Ecotricity about 18 months ago because npower imposed a standing charge for gas. Ecotricity have now done the same.
The letter from Ecotricity states that they're doing this to come in line with other providers as per instructions from Ofgem to make all pricing structures similar. Does this mean that all suppliers will be imposing a gas standing charge?
The standing charge will increase my bill massively but I don't want to switch only to find that a new supplier does the same in a few months time. Don't really want to give up my gas cooker either
Thanks
Anne

Yes, the suppliers will have no choice but to levy a standing charge to reduce their tariff numbers. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

But, as with Ebico, the standing charge can be zero pence, it does not have to be poundsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Another low user here, I am in the process of changing to Ebico, from BG, as I don't want to pay the new standing charge. I checked how much my gas and electric was going to cost me, based on my current usage, and it came out cheaper than BG. Easy site to navigate and understand. I'm hoping it all goes through smoothly.

You might like to consider getting a bottled gas stove, or getting adaptors for the one you have. We have used this system for years, as it seems only worth having mains gas if you use it for heating too.Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0
