Hi Group,
A newbie today I have searched all the posts and found some requests for more information for cable users.
Has a definate reply been printed for the cheapest way for cable users to make their calls.
The £7 a month which includes free after 6pm and free weekend calls. Should this be supplemented with 1899 or 18866. I know 18866 charges 0.5p per minute using cable. Does 1899 do the same ?
Best wishes
Dave E.

I don't have a cable landline myself but, having read a good few threads on the subject the best current option appears to be:
1. Revert to the cheapest (landline rental only) option your cable company will allow and save yourself that £7 per month you're currently paying for those 'free' calls.
2. EDIT (see bbb-uk's post below)
3. Sign up for call1899.co.uk for your weekday calls to UK 01 and 02 numbers (at the moment, they charge cable customers a 3p connection fee for each call via their 0808 freephone number and 0p/minute to UK 01 & 02 numbers).Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -

Sign up online for OneTel's LeisureUKTalk CPS (Carrier PreSelect) package before the end of this month (their free offer ends 30/4/05) and get really free evening and weekend calls to UK 01 and 02 numbers for a year (the package will cost £3.99 a month after the year is up so you may have to move on again then)....
Say, for example, you dial: 01234 567890, the PhonePal would then dial OneTel's freephone access number to access OneTel's network and then dial 01234 567890. The only difference is that using CPS, the calls are automatically routed without the need for dialler, a freephone number or the need for a PhonePal.
Back to your calls:
As suggested by April, if you sign-up to Call1899 for daytime calls then you would pay nothing per minute for geographical (calls beginning 01 or 02) calls just a 3p connection charge. In comparison to OneTel who would charge 2.7p per minute.
So for daytime calls you would have to manually dial Call1899's freephone access number before you made any daytime calls (therefore bypassing OneTel's access number), but during the evening & weekend the PhonePal from OneTel would automatically dial OneTel's freephone access number itself.
If you didn't fancy having to remember to dial Call1899 freephone access number during the daytime then you could look at getting a Orchid Dialler from Orchid Electronics. The dialler is capable of automatically routing calls depending on type of call (mobiles, geographical, etc) or/and the time of day. If you bought the Orchid Dialler, you wouldn't need the PhonePal from OneTel as the Orchid Dialler can be setup to use Call1899 for daytime calls and for evening/weekend use OneTel - all this automatically.
For more info on the Orchid Dialler please visit the following thread.
Hope this has helped you?!0 -
davita,
who is your cable supplier?...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hi,
Tele West I think, I'm OK with BT my friend is not on the internet.

As above then really, go down to the lowest Telewest tariff which I think is Talk Weekends for £10.50/month then use call1899 for any calls which are made other than at weekends. Why not go down the route that others have done for NTL and ask Telewest how you go about leaving for a better deal elsewhere. They may reduce your line rental for a while. You can but ask......and then the window licker said to me...0
