Hello,
After my laptop and internal HD being a problem over the past month or so, I now have a new internal HD and my laptop is finally set up as I want it re: files, music, drivers, updates, etc.
I have a 500GB WD external drive that will become my back up. Previously I just used the W7 back up facility. Is this enough?
Or should I use the Macrium Free to create the disc image?
If I use the W7 facility is that then a disc image back up that I could use if the new HD dies (hopefully it won't but ...)?
Or is a boot CD/DVD something different and separate? Or can that be created on the external drive too? And if so, how do I go about creating that please?
I have read the sticky but I have difficulty working it all out, sorry.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help offered.
All the best,
Spigs

a bootcd is so that you have a software environment to boot into, to enable you to restore from backup held on an external drive. Without a boot cd, you've just got 2 drives, and no mean of restore.
You can use windows system image backup or macrium or both, personally I'd go for the latter, it's more advanced!!

So how do I create the boot cd please? And can it be a boot DVD (I don't have any blank CDs)?
Thanks again,

using the program you choose to do the backup with, windows backup and restore, create system repair disk, or macrium, others tasks, create rescue media.
dvd is fine.
you still have to do a backup as well, if you choose macrium don't do the clone backup, just normal backup (image this disk option)!!
