Child Tax Credit & Tax Credit Overpayment Repay Advice Needed

Hi,

I have been sent a letter saying I have been overpaid in Child & Tax credits for the years 2011/2012.

Abit about me: I lost my job year and a half ago and currently working part time. I barely have a living and struggling to pay even the basics.
Because my partner is working part time too, I'm not intitled to any help or support according to the Job Center.

I now have been sent a letter saying I have to pay back nearly £1000 in Child and Tax credits. I have phoned them and they said there's nothing they can do, I have had 2 letters saying they will send bay lifts round if I don't pay soon.
I spoke to them again after the last letter and they gave me my final extension to pay.. But there is still no way that in 1 months time I can pluck a grand out of anywhere.

What can I do?
Can I get it cleared? Or pay back in 2 years or so when hopefully I'm back on my feet?

There really pressuring me for payment and I have had 3 extensions. I can hardly pay my household bills and morgagre.

In my opinion it was there mistake to over paid, why should I be in hell because they messed up?

How did the mistake occur? Had you neglected to advise a change of circumstances or had information provided by you been lost/ignored?
  • they can agree monthly payments.

extensions wont make it go away but setting up a payment plan will make the situation a lot better.
