TBH I'd pay the £40 and be done with it. It may be unfair but quite frankly life's too short.

and thats what the greedy train company hopes u will do, all those £40 soon add up, a nice little earner or cash cow if u like

As do all those hours on the phone to idiots in call centres. I'd rather pay up and have a happier life.

If others choose a different route then good for them, I'm merely pointing out that spending hour after frustrating hour shouting at Indians or minimum wage Geordies could probably be spent more fruitfully.
  • Hi
How busy was the station when u were traveling ?
We were recently in London & we had problems with reader which we discovered at the end of the journey.
We heard it beep but didn't realise that a double beep meant an error & there were so many people all trying to get through. We were a family of 4 trying to stay together & hang on to luggage so we just moved with the flow of people. In such circumstances you can't look back to see there is an error.
When we realised at the end we went to the ticket office & we were able to sort it out.

The DLR logged me in and not out of a journey I did t get to take as we just missed the last train. Had to put £10on card next day used cash said it registered but It didn't. Complained but nothing they can do to prove it though you can get a print of where you have to her your card in.

ticketboss, if you do make a campaign out of it, don't forget to cover the slushfund angle - that is the millions that Capita/TFL (maybe Serco involved too now?) are sitting on which are the maximum fare penalties they've been levying for years now and which can be triggered equally well by a failed touch-in or failed touch-out or simply through rush hour commuters periodically being ushered through barriers by staff getting round a barrier misfunction or re-construction glitch who make no warning that the journey will have to be corrected to avoid a one-touch journey penalty.

Couple that with the millions they are sitting on in Oystercard deposits, incorrectly debited auto-topups (never got my head around what they were playing at with those) and unclaimed credits on oystercards which they made it just difficult enough to recover that thousands never did.

I would love to know how they account for it all.

I bet they have a tap on it and drain it periodically.
From the late great Tommy Cooper: "He said 'I'm going to chop off the bottom of one of your trouser legs and put it in a library.' I thought 'That's a turn-up for the books.' "

I've actually heard good things about the Oyster telephone line I think it's a bit unfair to refer to call centre staff as idiots. Many are under strict instructions by management to follow silly scripts.

On your death bed do you think you'll be saying, well at least I didn't pay the penalty fare even if it cost me several hours of time with the kids/friends/family/watching TV/doing my hobby.

this just encourages us poor people getting ripped off!

Hmm, I'm glad we aren't all like you - we are fleeced enough now and meekly accepting shoddy service and suspect penalties only helps the fat cats!

If everyone rolled over, you'd know about it as you'd be regularly fleeced, but you can do so safe in the knowledge that others are tackling these issues and ensuring the chance of it happening to you is low enough for you to simply pay up.
