Hi - Long time lurker but first time poster
We have just exchanged on our new home today, with a completion set for January and have a couple of questions with the gas/electricity setup of our new home:
1) I am currently in a fixed deal with Scottish Power in my current property. The seller of our new property stated that the utilities are currently with British Gas so i assume I will close my account with Scottish Power and open a new one with British Gas upon completion. Is this correct?
2) Assuming 1) is correct, will i then be tied into anything with British Gas? I will be looking to find the best possible gas/electric tariff and if that means changing suppliers then i don't want to be tied in to British Gas.
3) The electric meter in the new property is a key meter which i would like changing to a conventional one as soon as possible. Presumably a call to British Gas when i set up my new accounts can get this changed? How long does this typically take to action? Fortunately the gas meter is of a conventional type.
Many thanks in Advance!

1. Correct.
2. You won't be tied in unless you choose to be.
3. BG are one of the suppliers that will change a PPM for free, subject to a credit check. How long? Normally they can book an appointment within the next fortnight, although this is holiday season so you can count on it being longer than that.0 -
No lock in on Standard tariff with any supplier. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
