Just now I logged into my Halifax Account and just asked me to add Halifax online as a receipt as this is a new security measure. Has anyone tried to log onto Halifax today and been asked to add Halifax online then ringing your phone and you entering the pin code?

    Sounds iffy to me.

Call Halifax on 0845 602 0000 if in doubt.
  • I thought that at first but then I logged out and went to the website again and had the same problem when I logged into my online banking?.

Are you already registered? I heard this was for those new to online banking. They send a verification code to allow you to set up a username etc. but not if you already have one.

Or, re-reading, if you are setting up a new payment somewhere, yes they do call with a code to the number on file. There is a button to choose whether they send it to home phone or mobile.

  • I confirm what Bossymoo has said I've set up new payments and Halifax have called my mobile then when you see the special code on your pc screen you can I either say the number into your phone or key the number on your phone.hope this doesn't sound too confusing and hope it puts your mind at rest.:)

Ah yes, I got it the wrong way round - the 4 digit code shows on the screen, and you key it into the phone when prompted. (Been a while since I set up a new one)

They NEVER ask you to enter your PIN.

Any code that they ask you to enter or say on the phone will be a random code generated for a new payment instruction you are trying to set up. This code will be displayed on the website when they call you.

They are calling you on the number registered on your account. They will never ask you to enter a new phone number there and then.

If you get asked for your PIN and/or your phone number at the time of the transaction, you are on a phishing site.

As I and someone else asked before: what exactly are your trying to do, and what exactly are you being asked to do?

Did you ring Halifax (on a number from the halifax.co.uk website) and ask them about the issue?
