Aurora borealis holidays?

Hey all,
I'm thinking of planning a holiday to see the Northern lights in the next year. There will just be a couple of us, relatively fit 30 year old lads. Were both on decent wages so no need to do it on the ultra cheap.
Has anybody done one of these holidays? And if so any tips/recommendations on anything?
Cheers!

Hiya
We went to Iceland last February for 4 nights - flying from Manchester to Rekjavik. I think it was a Sunday til Thursday. Price wise, we did manage to get it mega cheap as the route had just opened with easyjet, but im pretty sure we paid about £450 for 2 with flights and hotel in town.

oops edited to say, we didnt actually get to see the northern lights as there was low activity over iceland for the 4 days we were there. S0ds law that activity came quite high once we left! So we will be back! But there really is plenty to do - we had an amazing time.£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
there are no assurances that you will see the lights so dont plan a trip around those lights - personally I would go into lapland with a ski company like inghams or crystalski to somewhere like levi, saariselka or ruka and make a week of it, husky and reindeer safaris, ice fishing , snowmobiles and (if you want to) skiiing or snowboarding and if the lights come out then its an added bonus
also, they are sort of a winter experience0 -
We also did an Iceland trip for 4 days but didn't see the lights. We still had a fab time in wind and rain -there's lots to see without the lights - we hired a car - but it would have been great if they'd been out!
We are now thinking of going up to the Arctic Circle - northern Norway, Tromso way - to maximise chances of a sighting.0 -
We went to Iceland in March also didn't see the lights but had a good time. Iceland is mega expensive to eat and drink.
(They had a really good showing of the lights in Scotland.....)0 -
I went to Northern Finland last year, saw the lights twice. finnair flights were £250 each, changing at Helsinki for Ivalo0

Glass igloos under the northern lights in the middle of the Forrest. Hell yeah...0 -
Go as far north as possible, I'd recommend Norway. I'd skip Iceland. It's an amazing country in its own right but its not easy to spot the lights from, as backed up by others in this thread. I also didn't see the lights there.0
