Can I clear a credit card payment quickly?

I believe with Capital 1 you can pay over the phone using a DD / Switch card and the payment is instant.

Ahha, yes, but no. Only if your payment is late will they accept a payment over the telephone. However, FWWIW, Barclaycard and Vanquis will both take a payment over the phone for instant application to the account.

It depends on the card and which bank you pay in at. Even paying Barclaycard at a Barclays branch can take 5 days. In my experience, the quickest way to pay is via online banking, and even then the cash takes to hit each account varies. I pay Barclaycard, Capital One and Vanquis on line, Cap One arrives in 2 days, Barclays 3 and Vanquis 5. Work that one out! Does not make sense does it!!!

Penny, just for the record, please let us know when the funds arrive on the account. You paid on the weekend I assume. Do not rely on the online statement being bang up to date. My guess is, if you telephone tomorrow, it will show on your account as being received today.
