Netgear WG602

Options
Hello.......Have just got myself a WG602 WAP to attach to my DG834 Modem/Router which also has my desktop attached to it. For one night only it ran my wireless laptop fine. But next morning I switched it on and found that the wireless light on the WG602 was not lit. Nothing had been moved or disconnected, so I was puzzled !
I have searched many forums looking for an answer, but to no avail. By the looks of it the DG834 does not see WG602, I have "IPconfiged/All" etc and only the Desktop and Modem/Router show up. The Netgear IP address is not working 192.168.0.227........I have tried to reset the unit with the reset button on the back, pulling out the power lead etc , but still no joy........What else can I do. Apart from throwing it out of the window ? Oh by the way I have swapped the ethernet cable aswell............As you can see the wired internet works, it's just the wireless bit !!!!!!!!!

David ( I have searched wireless threads.......Even found Browntoad looking for help ! )

Have you tried just connecting the access point to the PC to configure it and then plugging it into the router? If the wireless light does not come on after you have reset the unit and enabled wireless in the config screen, it is likely faulty.

  • Hello
Diolch (thanks) Expresso........I have done what you said on the laptop, plugging the WG602 straight into it via the ethernet cable and putting the Netgear resource CD in aswell. Hey presto I can access setting tools and check the IP address etc. I was unable to do a reboot or reset the factory setting because I was offline. So I then did the same on the desktop, unplugging the internet and plugging the WG602 straight into it. BUT I was unable to do anything !!!!!!!

So did you check that the wireless was enabled and set up the encryption?

Probably due to the the fact that the host PC must be set on the IP subnetworkthat can be accessed by the device (router/access point). Example, when the default network address of the router/access point Ethernet interface is 192.168.1.x, then the host PC should be set at 192.168.1.xxx (where xxx is a number between 2 and 254), and the default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Your user manual should explain this.

After configuring the access point connect it to the router.

  • The other night when I first set it all up everything worked fine and I set the encryption up. All the units have an IP address........DG834 (Mo/Rou) 192.168.0.1 Desktop plugged into the DG834 192.168.0.2 and the WG602 also plugged into the DG834 192.168.01.03
I have the same anti virus running on Laptop and Desktop and the windows Firewall running on both and the mech firewall running on the DG834.
Any idea why the Netgear CD runs and operates on the Laptop, but not on the desktop ???

    Thanks

No CD is required, simply enter the IP address into your browser to configure it.

  • Sorry..........If I put any other IP address other than the router/modem (192.168.0.1) all I get is Cannot display webpage error ! Even putting 192.168.0.227 gives me the same result..........David
