Is the end cap for a radiator a vital part when removing?

Thanks
Are they vital though?
Could i get away with whipping it off, painting the paper & then re-fitting it?
Also, as i say - some videos use paste when putting back on, others don't. Should you? Does it not matter?0 -
some valves just won't turn off fully & will still drip or worse, for the cost of two caps it's better to have them & not need them, I certainly wouldn't put as much boss white or similiar as he does in that vid as it could block the valves, but a smear around the olives on the rad stem before you re-fit the rad is a good ideaI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
In that case what sort of paste is he using?
I guess i'll have to order online. I was going to say i'll try Wickes, but i had a look & they didn't have those did they.0 -
Turns out B&Q do have them: http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/plumbing-central-heating/central-heating-fittings/caps/PlumbSure-Blanking-Cap-12-7mm-Female-11477785?skuId=11988492

With the number of rads your removing, why not just drain down the entire system?0

2) I don't know when we will get cracking on the other rooms. The box room can get done right now. The master bedroom, we're undecided if the wall/ceiling(whatever you call it - it's on the ceiling) paper is going to have to come off or not. The living room is a long way from being ready.0 -
