CAG - Poster Liability for opinions

I was intrigued to see a post on the recent CAG newsletter referring to an upcoming poster liability for statements made on forums.
Defamatory statements on the forums
Website forums like CAG are often at risk from claims being made against them for defamation.
Currently we have to be very careful about what can be posted with regard to allegations against companies and individuals which may leave CAG open to law suits or libel.
However, the new Defamation Act which comes into force in January will change how things are done since it could make a poster responsible for the things they write and not CAG.
The changes will apply to any website owner.
We will announce more details as to how it affects our members and CAG as a forum in the coming weeks.
Maybe I have been too busy to notice an already well-rehersed argument, or maybe not. What is the opinion here.

Not sure this board (Parking) is necessarily the correct place for this thread.
That said, I also was not aware of these changes. But I don't feel intimidated by the change - in fact on the face of it, it sounds fair. Why should somebody who hosts a message board be liable for comments posted by others? The person making the comment should stand or fall by their comment, and not try to hide behind the apron strings of the message board.0 -
Agree with the above. To my mind there's no difference in posting here, twitter, facebook etc and there are plenty of examples of people being arrested for posts on other forms of social media so why not forums?0

As long as you stick to facts and don't call ppc obscene names there should be no need to change anything. We all know how sensitive ppc's are, I had a signiature removed due to having a ppc name in it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

As long as you post accurate information and truthful experiences you have nothing to worry about.
For example saying Huyne is a criminal is fine, he has been convicted of a crime.
Saying a certain ex world leader is a war criminal is not if I was to name said person.0 -

As with any sort of defamation, just remember your best defence is that you are telling the truth. It would be interesting to see if any PPC's risk taking someone to court as defamation can only start in the High Court (not the County Court). As such there is a much higher level of compliance required and the PPC's could not be so selective with what evidence they produce.0

MSE used to delete any posts that mentioned certain claims management companies. Even though they did turn out to be crooks.
MSE still deletes comments even now, for example they deleted the fact that I pointed out that there is conflict of interest with IPC and the solicitors who share the same address, oh and a director. Yet these will probably be the ones with the independent appeals. Independent of whom ?
I call it as is, if they take offence, well tough luck! The truth is obviously something that doesn't sit comfortable with certain organisations and their lackeys!
By the way gladstones go and complain again to mse, it will be posted up again! Just accept the truthAnd lets face facts here, you are all linked aren't you? and all I said that you are, and here is public information just confirming that. Explain then?
