How much juice is my dehumidifier using? Is it expensive to run?

Options
I just wondered if they were expensive to run or not.

Set it up in the morning, took a meter reading:

65097/3

Returned in the evening with it having been the only electrical thing that was on. Checked the meter...

65099/4

What does that translate to in English?

Just out of curiosity.

  • No fridge on ? just over 2 kwhrs so 2 times whatever your electric tariff is, approx 25p
  • Ours is rated at 350 watts so it will run for three hours approx for one unit which for us is about 16pence. There will be a rating plate on the back for you to check the consumption of yours.

they can be expensive, as said check the back, my plate was behind the pull out water container, took me ages to find it :o stopped using it now, was too expensive to run and not very effective.

I think mine was somewhere around 300w, which doesn't sound that bad, but these things need to be on a long time to pull out enough water from he air to be effective, just to get a 5% drop takes most of the day, times that by a week you will be looking at around an extra £10 a month, if you only have it on a few times a week then I'm not sure what use it will be, as a bath can put a couple of liters of water into the air, showers, washing etc etc you will be adding litres a day to the air, trying to get ridof that much water without having it on for most of the time is not easy.

Openning a window will probably be cheaper and less noisy.

As above. There's a rating plate on it, like on every electrical device. That in kWh x your unit kWh cost is the hourly cost.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Having solar I just turn mine on during daylight hours :)

I was given one for free so just use it occasionally to see what it pulls out the air which is very little. Nice to have tho...

  • At the moment we're just using it to dry out the bedroom as the roof had been leaking, the wall is/was wet & the timber section of roof is wet.

The wall itself seems to have dried up quite nice. The big patch is just light now instead of dark.
