I did a retune on one of my freeview boxes a while ago ( around October ) and noticed a new channel True Entertainment on C61. Just got around to re-tuning my other box and see that there are now additional HD channels showing. BBC3, BBC4, CBBC, CBEEBIES and BBC News HD.
You may already be aware of this, but the update certainly passed me by, so I assume there are others.
BTW, some boxes wipe the recording schedule when doing a retune,so make sure you can re-populate the schedule afterwards.

I think all the boxes wipe the recording schedule whilst keeping existing recordings. It's the same with Freesat - we have both. The odd thing we've noticed is that, while the Freeview box tells you occasionally to re-tune for certain reasons the Freesat box doesn't but sometimes it starts to work oddly, not recording on series link and not selecting programmes when you press the select button. when that first happened I e-mailed Humax and they told me to re-tune the box so that's what I've been doing periodically when it starts to act as if it's ill.0

If your box went on fire, blew up, and then got run over, Humax would recommend a retune! We have 2 Humax boxes, when they are working they are very good, but when they throw a wobbler they are a right pain. Only response from Humax was 'retune'.0 -

That's what I thought too when they e-mailed those instructions to me but it worked. I've continued to do that with the Freesat box when it throws a track every now and again. The Freeview box is less troublesome.
Software issues seem to be the major problem with our Humax Freesat box. I realised that early on (we've had the box for nearly 4 years now). Each update seems to cure one problem but causes another, or at least that's how it seemed for quite a long time. It's pretty stable now and hasn't needed retuning for at least six months. So maybe they're getting their act together?
Certainly in discussions here on the Technical Forum, Humax seems to be the recommended name by the resident boffins. Personally I've no experience with any other Freesat system. I've only ever used Sky, which had its own set of annoying problems requiring hours on the phone, or Virgin TV which I wish I could get again because it was fantastic.0 -
Freesat, the platform, is able to do the channel updates, and reorders, overnight in standby. The whole lot.
Freeview, the platform, will just send the notification to the box.0 -

Yes I'd noticed that difference between the two of them but it doesn't take away the necessity to do a complete re-install with Freesat every few months. Or at least that was our experience for a couple of years. We've not had to do it for ages now so perhaps that glitch is fixed? Logic tells me it was probably a firmware problem and that probably updates overnight with the rest of the stuff the box does automatically.0 -
GlynD, I haven't done a complete re-install on my Humax Foxsat HDR for years, bought it not long after they came out. Don't mix up your particular model, with the platform itself.0

Al I can only go by my own experiences which I've described faithfully.0

Without mentioning the DEVICE you are using. Humax make lots of Freesat boxes.
Oh sorry Al. I was having a blonde moment about it. In all honesty I thought they only made the one.
The model is the Foxsat HDR. I bought it about 4 years ago from Currys.
Is there anything more you can tell us through knowing that?0
