Case with PE settled through mediation

I would like to report that PE and I came to an arrangement to settle this matter for a princely sum of £50. This case is now over.

I know some of you would have preferred if this matter had gone to court, in the end after much thought and consultation with my family, I chose this option. (I believe there would have been court fees to pay before a hearing).

I would like to specially thank COUPON MAD and PARKING PRANKSTER for all the help and support they gave me - privately as well as on here. I would also like to thank everyone who contributed to my threads.

I wish everyone reading this a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!

  • Someone else settled for just £25 by making a counter offer recently. See here. So for anyone fed up to the back teeth with the whole process, there is scope for reducing their proposed settlement figure. Remember PE know that court will cost them more than they get back, even if they win. So any settlement is good for them.

Personally, I don't think they deserve a single penny, but anyone on the receiving end of PE's c**p-storm has to make a personal decision on cost v. hassle.

I absolutely agree with you - The Slithy Tove. I did offer them £25, however this matter was nearing the court stages, and I even attended a Directions Hearing in the county court. Maybe if I had offered this amount in the early stages, it might have been successful.

I think making a offer of payment to the PPN in writing is a good ploy - if it works, case over, if it doesn't then it will help at a court hearing in future.
  • they only offer mediation when they know they about to lose, so its really a win for them.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

No one can say in advance if a case is going to be won or lost.
If they know they will lose, why would they increase their loses further by paying a court hearing fee?
  • Doesn't this get to the cause of the problem. If a PCN was for a reasonable amount....say £25....then most of us might be prepared to settle. But no, they have to try taking £60 -rising to £100 for non-payment, amounts that are clearly penal.

And the public sector is no better....and sometimes worse.

Court fee £25.00, Mediation £50 PE up £25.00
Court Fee £25.00, Go to court £200(guess) for legal help, Win=break even
    Lose is -£225.
if there's any doubt then conning someone into paying at mediation is a win for them.
Not sure if you pay court fee if mediation successful.
